Following a request for support from the Alex Hospice and Rehabilitation Centre (Region E-Alexandra), the Ramakrishna Centre
of South Africa Johannesburg immediately embarked on an initiative to assist.
The Hospice is the only Facility of its kind in Alexandra. It caters for neglected individuals with terminal and chronic ailments such as HIV / AIDS and offers clinical, palliative, emotional and social support.
The Centre provided the Hospice with a months supply of groceries (rice, beans, oil, milk, tea) and vegetables (potatoes, onions, butternut, sweet potatoes, carrots) as well as and nutritional porridge.
In addition, the professional care givers that are employed on a voluntary basis were each provided with comprehensive grocery and vegetable hampers. These caregivers continue to provide their service to the terminally ill despite no income. Masks were supplied for patients and care givers. Health awareness posters on precautionary measures to be taken for prevention of the COVID-19 infection was presented. These will be affixed within the wards.
On the occasion of, “Mothers Day”, cakes and vetkoeks were supplied. All the mothers were overjoyed with this gesture
